A Commitment to Biblical Principles

My end goal is to be a servant representative for southwest Kansas and a mature voice of reason and common sense for western Kansas, doing so within the context of, and in alignment with, Biblical truth/instruction. Principles that guide my decision-making include:

  • Belief in God-honoring families and that life, which begins at conception, is a gift from our creator God
  • The belief that an elected servant’s primary responsibility is to listen to those he/she represents, respectfully debate the issues, and boldly make decisions based upon Biblical truth/principles. Also, we must strive to make wise decisions with the best foresight regarding potential “unintended consequences.”
  • The belief that we are instructed to love all people, even when we don’t share their values. Even though we might disagree about the actions of others, we must treat all persons with love and respect.
  • Belief we must do for others (particularly widows, orphans, and disabled) what they cannot do for themselves, but we must not do for people what they will not do for themselves. In other words, we need to provide “a hand up” that encourages positive action toward self-sufficiency and not provide “a hand out” to able-bodied persons.
  • The belief there are negotiables and non-negotiables in our Creator’s world and decisions must be made in accordance with Biblical principles.
  • The belief that we must strive to do what is right and God-honoring for the majority of people and not be swayed by the emotional appeal from a “loud voice” minority.
  • The belief that government, at any level, should be effective, efficient, and least intrusive as possible, particularly as it relates to mandates and regulations.
  • The belief that government should financially always balance needed and desired services with expected revenues while maintaining an appropriate level of funds in reserve for emergencies and opportunities.
  • The belief that capitalism is the engine that spurs economic prosperity and encourages the “makers” to succeed. Furthermore, the belief we were created with equal opportunities, but not promised we would have equal outcomes.
  • The belief that legal firearm ownership is a constitutional right. Furthermore, unwarranted confiscation of those legally-owned firearms is inappropriate.
